Iodine

Iodine appears as gray-black or bluish-black, metallic-shining crystalline flakes or lumps. It readily sublimes into a pungent, violet-colored vapor that is both toxic and corrosive. Iodine dissolves easily in organic solvents such as ether and ethanol, forming a deep purple solution, while its solubility in water is very limited.
